Founded in accordance with Greek Law 5120/2024 and rooted in the legacy of philanthropist Panagiotis Aristophron, the Koinon brings together the world's most distinguished minds to pursue knowledge, foster collaboration, and advance human understanding.

Historical Journey
Plato Founds the Academy
Plato acquires an orchard adjacent to the sacred Akademia Park and establishes his school—considered the first institution of higher learning in the Western world, where philosophy, astronomy, and mathematics flourished.
Academy of Athens Founded
Established by constitutional decree as Greece's National Academy for the Sciences, Humanities and Fine Arts, housed in Theophil Hansen's magnificent neoclassical building, financed by Baron Simon Sinas.

Aristophron's Excavations
Panagiotis Aristophron benefactor of the Academy of Athens sponsors and leads systematic excavations at the traditional place considered as the site of Plato's Academy at downtown Athens, uncovering the ancient gymnasium complex and emphasizing the site's historical significance.
He was the first to propose the foundation of an international community (Koinon) of Academies.
The Koinon is Born
Following Greek Law 5120/2024, the Senate of the Academy of Athens unanimously approves the establishment of the International Community (Koinon) of Academies, fulfilling Aristophron's century-old will.
International Community of Academies invitation
The International Community of Academies invites Academies and other distinguished institutions to joining of spiritual resources to continue interdisciplinarity in thought and skill from present to future at the very place where Plato’s Academy established its interdisciplinary roots of Philosophy, Science and Art.
